There are three divisions of the State Bar of New Mexico. Each division has a distinct presence on NMBar. You will find useful information such as bylaws, membership information, newsletters and other legal resources.
Paralegal DivisionThe Paralegal Division of the State Bar of New Mexico was formally organized in August 1995 to serve the needs of legal assistants throughout the state, with the following specific goals: to encourage a high order of ethical and professional attainment; to further education among its members; to carry out programs within the State Bar; and to establish good fellowship among Division members, the State Bar of New Mexico, and the members of the legal community. Senior Lawyers DivisionThe purposes of the Senior Lawyers Division are to uphold the honor of the profession of law and apply the knowledge and experience of the Seniors to the promotion of the public good. The Division shall also promote the special interests of the senior lawyer, to plan and carry out programs, publications and activities of interest to the senior lawyer, and to protect the lawful rights of the senior citizens of the State. Membership of this Division shall consist of all members of the State Bar of New Mexico who are fifty-five (55) years of age or older and who have practiced law for twenty-five (25) years or more. Young Lawyers DivisionThe Young Lawyers Division (YLD) promotes the integrity and respect of the legal profession, provide services and outreach to its members, and supports and encourages public service. YLD was formed as a Section in the early 1960's and was known as the Junior Bar. In 1978, the Section became the Young Lawyer Division, which is an affiliate of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA-YLD). All State Bar members under the age of thirty-six (36), as well as those who have been admitted to the practice of law in any state for five (5) years or less are YLD members.
