Attorneys Give Free Legal Help in Silver City

Albuquerque, N.M. – A free legal advice day will be held in Silver City from 1–5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Grant County Convention Center, 3031 Highway 180 East, Silver City. Attorneys will be available to provide free consultations on a first-come, first-served basis on a variety of civil legal topics, including probate, divorce, custody, landlord/tenant, bankruptcy, unemployment, and immigration. At noon, a divorce and custody clinic will be held to help attendees understand the process and receive help filling out paperwork. Interpreters will be available.

District Judge Henry R. Quintero, chair of the Sixth Judicial District Pro Bono Committee, states, “Throughout New Mexico, we have seen the need for legal services skyrocket, and this is true for individuals living in Grant, Luna, and Hidalgo counties.  We are hoping that through our free legal advice day, those people who have put addressing their legal needs on hold will have the opportunity to speak with an attorney free of charge and learn what steps to take going forward. Thanks to the generosity of the Grant County Convention Center and the volunteers in our counties, the people in our counties may receive the legal guidance they need.”

This clinic is presented by the Sixth Judicial District Pro Bono Committee and New Mexico Legal Aid.  For more information, contact Jane Zhi at 505-797-6040 or jzhi@nmbar.org.
