Hello, Members:
The Taxation Section Nominating Committee has issued its report, below, proposing a slate of officers for 2015. If you want to contest the election, please get the signatures of at least 10 members of the section on the petition, email it to D.D. Wolohan by Oct. 31, and state which position you are contesting. A runoff will follow. If there is no opposition after Oct. 31, the slate is approved by acclamation and will serve in 2015.

Bobbie Collins
is an associate attorney at Butt Thornton & Baehr PC. She is a graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and previously practiced real estate and estate planning at a large national law firm in Colorado, Holland & Hart LLP. She is currently studying part-time to obtain an LLM in Taxation through the University of Denver's Graduate Tax Program. Her tax practice is mainly focused on advising businesses and individuals of the tax consequences of real estate transactions. She also represents clients in estate planning matters with tax considerations, and advises non-profit organizations on maintaining 501(c) status. She hopes to be a part of the Tax Section Board in order to increase communication from the Board to Section members, and provide opportunities for monthly training over lunch.

Tracy Sprouls
earned his B.A. from UNM in 1978, his J.D. from UNM in 1981, and his LL.M. from the University of Florida College of Law, Graduate Tax Program in 1993. Prior to 1993 Mr. Sprouls had a litigation practice in Roswell for 11 years. From 1993 to 2000, he practiced primarily in tax and estate planning in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. In 2000, he moved to Albuquerque to join the Rodey Law Firm, where he continues his practice in state and federal tax, tax-exempt organizations, estate planning, and general business law matters. Mr. Sprouls was a State Bar of New Mexico Bar Commissioner from 1996 to 2000. He has been a director of the Tax Section since 2003. Mr. Sprouls is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts in New Mexico and the Northern District of Texas, the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

The general purpose of the Section shall be the promotion of the objectives of the State Bar of New Mexico within the particular fields designated by the name of this Section. To that end, it shall be the purposes of this Section:

A. To expand tax knowledge among Section members;
B. To act as liaison between the Bar and public officials involved in the taxing process; and
C. To enhance tax awareness of the Bar and general public.


You may be enrolled as a member of the Taxation Section if

a) you are a member in good standing of the State Bar of New Mexico, and
b) you submit a Section Application Form to the State Bar of New Mexico, and
c) your payment of the stated amount due is submitted with your application.

You may enroll at any time during the year; however, your membership will expire in December of that same year. Dues for membership in this Section are $20 per calendar year. Please contact 797-6035 if you have a question regarding payment of dues.
