Homeless Legal Clinics

The Young Lawyers Division Operates Homeless Legal Clinics in Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Santa Fe. Volunteer attorneys staff the clinics and provide legal information and advice as well as refer clients to low income or pro bono legal service programs. Click here to learn more.

Other State Programs

Adult Protective Services (APS)

Social workers investigate reported cases of suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation of adults (must be 18 years or older). APS will also consult and advise a person who calls regarding a suspected abuse, neglect or exploitive situation. APS is involved in adult homecare services and referrals. These services and referrals involve non-personal and non-medical assistance.

Consumer Credit Counseling Services

Professional counseling and guidance in money management, budgeting and the wise use of credit. Assist in developing a repayment program where over-extension or indebtedness is a major problem. Provides education programs on credit related topics.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

Court Appointed Special Advocates advocate for children in the custody of the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Deals with abuse, neglect and custody. Monitors treatment for families and goes to court to speak on child’s behalf.

F.A.C.S. Program

Forms and Courthouse Services (FACS) provides services for low-income persons who need assistance in some civil cases. May accept serious chronic domestic violence cases. Services include providing and preparing various court forms, and preparing of wills on an emergency basis only. Services are provided at the courthouse on a first-come, first-serve basis.

New Mexico Attorney General’s Homeownership Preservation Program


As a result of funds from the settlement of the national lawsuit against five of the nation’s largest mortgage lenders, the New Mexico Attorney General’s office has created the New Mexico Attorney General’s Homeownership Preservation Program (HPP).  The HPP, a statewide network for homeowner assistance, is an unprecedented effort to assist New Mexico families threatened by the devastation of mortgage delinquency and/or foreclosure.   The New Mexico Attorney General’s office has partnered with 8 New Mexico non-profit organizations to provide a free safety net of foreclosure-prevention services to eligible families including a toll-free hotline, housing counseling, education, community outreach, legal representation and a website.  Visit the website ( or call the hotline (1-855-664-6630) to learn more about how to make contact.  There are only income eligibility requirements for legal representation.  All other services are free to everyone.

Public Defender

Free legal assistance for qualified low income persons (juveniles as well as adults) charged with a felony or misdemeanor.
