Mission Statement

Provides information and assistance to ensure access to counsel for persons who have a disability. The mission of the committee is to enhance awareness of the law and other issues as they relate to disabilities by the legal and lay community through education, and recognition. The committee's goals are to: increase awareness of the legal community of the needs of people with disabilities; encourage the members of the legal profession to be more supportive of people with disabilities; acknowledge those members of the State Bar of New Mexico who give of themselves to support the legal needs of people with disabilities; work with the UNM School of Law both to include courses dealing with the delivery of legal services to people with disabilities in the curriculum and to provide similiar CLE courses to new admittees to the State Bar of New Mexico; enhance the ability of the legal community to provide services to clients with disabilities; and help with the preparation and adoption of a Client Bill of Rights.
